The antibacterial fibre of Labico kitchen sponges provide long-lasting antibacterial efficacy against a broad spectrum of gram-positive (e.g. Staphylococcus aureus) as well as gram-negative bacteria (e.g. Escherichia coli and Salmonella) which are often found in contaminated food and involved in infectious diseases.

Bacteria will be inhibited in their growth on the surface of the humid scourer and even killed by time. The antibacterial efficacy can be shown by agar diffusion tests.
In this test the antibacterial fibre is applied on an agar disc containing bacteria. During incubation the antibacterial ingredient diffuses into the agar and inhibit the growth of the bacteria.
In case of an antibacterial effect the bacterial growth is inhibited around the fibre material.
The long-term and wash resistant antibacterial effects are influenced by the antibacterial concentration available on the fibre and the fixation of the antimicrobial ingredient in the fibre material
