Which are the right Practices for Wearing Disposable Gloves

Which are the right Practices for Wearing Disposable Gloves

Disposable gloves are useful for lots of different industries, but there are steps to follow if you want to ensure that they will offer protection in the best possible way.

Below you will find the right practices to follow for wearing disposable gloves.

1) Wash your hands first

Though it might sound common sense, some people tend to skip this step.

If you don’t wash your hands beforehand, you could contaminate the surfaces of the gloves by accidentally touching them with your bare hands. You could also spread germs if the gloves tear for whatever reason.

  • Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold) and apply soap.
  • Rub your hands together with the soap. Be sure to rub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  • Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. If you need a timer, you can hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
  • Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  • Dry them using a clean towel or paper towels.

2) Before wearing the gloves, always check them for punctures, tears, holes, or cracks.

Give your gloves a quick inspection before putting them on. If you notice pinholes, cracking or discoloration throw them away and use another pair.

3) Replace your gloves the moment you see them starting to wear out.

If you see any signs of degradation, it’s time to replace your gloves. Another rule of thumb to practice here is the more disposable gloves you wear, the better. Less is not more when it comes to glove safety.

4) Don’t wash or reuse disposable gloves.

There’s a reason why they are called disposable and this is because they are designed to be used only for the short term. If there are any doubts concerning safety use a new pair immediately.

5) Wear right-sized gloves.

Not only quality but also the proper glove size is essential here. When the glove size is not right then their applications may be compromised, or the gloves may be coming off therefore risking protection. The perfect size is when your hand fits well to perform all activities without feeling tight.

6) Wash your hands between glove changes.

The proper handwashing is the most important means against spread of disease and contamination. Remember to always wash your hands before wearing a new pair of gloves.

7) Have a latex allergy? Choose another type of gloves instead.

If you’re looking for another type of material for disposable gloves due to latex allergy, then nitrile, vinyl or HDPE are the alternatives here.

If you experience any of these symptoms –  from dry, itchy, crusty skin with cracks or sores, to a running nose, wheezing, difficulty breathing, swelling in the face, cramps and shock – you may be having an allergic reaction to latex.

In this case you can use any other type of gloves as mentioned above.

Conclusion

Follow these steps to ensure the best wear out of your gloves and respond to all healthcare and food safety best practices.
